GUTENBERG

Another blog mentioned that 3/22/1457 is the traditional (if likely incorrect by a year or two) date of the printing of the first moveable type book by Gutenberg. Someday I want to write a history of the Bible. Guys like Gutenberg, Hus, Wycliffe, Luther, and Tyndale absolutely fascinate me. We modern Christians owe these heroes an incomparable debt.

1455 AD -- Gutenberg's work was printing the Latin Vulgate. A marvelous innovation for clerics and scholars, not so much for common folk.

1534 AD -- Tyndale's printed Bibles were of his own translation directly into conversational English from the original Greek. He unfortunately lost his complete translation of the Old Testament, and was only able to finish the Torah and Jonah before he was hunted down and burned at the stake for his efforts.
