The thoughtful Christian's reaction when something like this happens is similar to stories about assassinating abortion doctors or church leaders physically abusing children. You know it totally misrepresents Christ and his teachings yet, the world at large thinks it reveals what Christians REALLY think. Ugh.
Some critics say the movie blames Jews for the death of Christ and will provoke anti-Semitism, and they question why Mel Gibson hasn't denounced his father's views.

Hutton Gibson spoke Monday to Steve Feuerstein of "Speak Your Piece!" on WSNR-AM, a show syndicated by Talkline, the largest syndicator of Jewish programming.

Some of his most outrageous rants focused on the millions of Jews exterminated by Adolf Hitler.

"They claimed that there were 6.2 million in Poland before the war, and they claimed after the war there were 200,000 - therefore he must have killed 6 million of them," he said. "They simply got up and left! They were all over the Bronx and Brooklyn and Sydney, Australia, and Los Angeles."

He said the Germans did not have enough gas to cremate 6 million people and that the concentration camps were just "work camps."

"It's all - maybe not all fiction - but most of it is," he said.
Someone needs to take Hutton to Dachau and Auschwitz and Birkenau as soon as humanly possible.
"There is at least one upside to the brouhaha over Mel Gibson’s controversial film, "The Passion of the Christ": It has led to some serious probing of current Jewish-Christian relations and given many Jews a crash course in the varieties of Christian theology."

Yes, we at GHBC have in a small way become part of the Gibson marketing machine. It's a bit puzzling since the recent Gospel of John film was so unrecognized by evangelicals, despite every single word of dialogue being a biblical quote, and despite some good acting and production values. But hey, if Pastor Lewis has seen it and thinks it's edifying, I'll trust him on it. Harry sure thinks it is.

If anyone wants to see The Passion a day early (7PM on Tuesday the 24th), and for free, let me know. [EDIT]: we rented two full showings and apparently all the tickets are spoken for. I think Mrs. Shotgun and I plan to go see it Wednesday night. [2ND EDIT] By the above I have no desire to fling criticism at my brothers and sisters just to sound uppity, detached, ironic, and/or Above It All. This guy Adeodatus expresses my trepidation about the movie perfectly. I wish I could write and think like him.

This is gold standard of Jesus moviemaking to me. I absolutely love Brian Deacon's acting. Amazingly you can view a RealPlayer version of The Jesus Film online in 60 different languages.
